Hello. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Joelle Sherwood aka Henderson Keto Girl. Henderson, Nevada is where my NEW HEALTHY LIFE began.
My husband had attempted to introduce me to Keto for two years. It took me awhile to get onboard because my husband wasn't able to answer any of my questions. "What is Keto?" "How do you know how many calories, fat, carbs and protein you should have?" "Other than Bulletproof coffee, what can you eat?" "Are there any restrictions?" So I began doing my own research into the Ketogenic Diet. Let me tell you, it was difficult to find information about Keto on the internet. A friend suggested looking in the groups on Facebook. I found a few and joined. It was there that I was given a formula on how to figure my Macros -- using your calories and divide the percentages (70% fat; 25% protein; 5% carbs) to get your Macros. I also learned in the beginning that if you are trying to lose weight, your fat intake should be lower than your protein because you will lose the fat you consumed before your body fat. I have been doing the Keto lifestyle since January 2019 when I weighed a whopping 251 lbs. It was out of control. I had already tried several traditional diets and thought WHAT DO I HAVE TO LOSE? Nothing, but weight I guess.
I have been heavy on and off since I had my second child. I lost 100 lbs in 1994; regained all that weight and lost 95 lbs in 2010 and once again lost the same 95 lbs in 2019. The only difference this time is that I have been able to maintain my weight with the Keto diet. Before while on the other diets, once you've met your weight loss goal, one usually stops eating a certain way and slowly begin again those bad eating habits and the cycle repeats itself. But not with Keto!
